those pesky resolutions

Happy New Year!
Did I mention that? It is indeed a new year.

I've been spoiled rotten the past few months with 30 days of my 30th birthday, and then running straight into Christmas. Im surrounded by pretty things, new music, lovely books all that have been so lovingly gifted to me by random people. Im determined to do a post about all that. Its craziness how loved I felt, and well everyone knew me. But Im ready to get back into a routine for sure.

A dear friend told me that whats awesome about being 30, is that when your 20, you kind of figure out WHO you are. I agree. I totally did that. But when your 30, you just get to start doing it all. Better. I love that. And its exactly what I want to do.

My new years "things" are:
getting a good morning routine with the Word + being active.
Continue my quest to eat better (which is going awesome).
More downtime as a family. I want us to get the chance to be bored togethor.
There you have it.

We rung in the New Year with just that, an impromptu slumber party at a friends house that we continued to extend because we couldn't bare to leave them. Meals, board games, no plans. We walked Dana Point harbor on New Years Day, and I looked at all these people and thought, how do they just have these free days to hang out on the beach, thats how crazy life has felt the last few years. And I realized ... we were there hanging out too. Lucky us. The sun was bright and beautiful and thawed us out, and I literally soaked it up. It felt awesome. I want more days like that all year round.

I realize saying I will do less this year, sounds like a cop out resolution. How simple. But for us its not. We love a lot of people, and are blessed by that. Its hard to fit it all in, but in the meantime, Im longing to sit on a beach and let my kids bury me, without the agenda of somewhere else to be in 20 minutes. I want to go on more family walks. I want to work in the garden togethor more this year. I want to soak them up. Kindergarten starts this year and no doubt the tugging and pulling of commitment will ring in harder than ever. I just want to gain control of it now.

So there you have it.

Speaking of doing less (snort) are you doing the pretty + practical home challenge, you should. Im excited to stop putting off ideas, and make them happen, THIS MONTH. In my home. And for me.

Yesterday I went to Ikea to arm myself with some of my ideas for projects. Im ready girls, the paint clothes, and loud music are coming on this week, you better keep up. We've already started taking stuff down and repairing.... posts will be coming.... We are excited to pour some love into this house.

but first Im going to drink one of these....

its filled with all of this....
its my current new obsession...
oh and wait before you go... how cute is this...??
the kids are not apparntley done with the holidays.
They are still addicted to wrapping things for people and leaving them laying around.
So if you come to my front porch right now, you'll find this...
waiting for daddy when he arrives home. So sweet.

ok for reals now, you can go about your day. You have "things" of your own to tackle....
but what are they?

I'm totally going to try to do the Pretty vs. Practical challenge over here. On the first I did both...finally framed and hung an art print that has been sitting around for month = pretty and had Greg rehang some hooks on the wall next to the entry for purses and coats and stuff = practical! How many points is that?

I really want to participate and change up my home... in fact its a resolution of mine - to fix up our house. But time escapes me. Money too.

Maybe we'll finally get to our bedroom - yeh, that sounds like a good place to start! :) Love all your updates!! Can't wait to see what is in store for that wall.
