introducing the pretty vs. practical home challenge

Are you all swimming with want to's and need to's  for your home that you hope to tackle during the month of January. Things beyond just lug out the dried out tree. Maybe things you have thought you would do since the day they handed you keys at escrow closing two years ago... Oh no. Thats just me.

Well Christmas is officially a wrap, Its put away and blogged. Whew.

Im dreaming of lots of things, things I want to do, like finally hang pictures in our stairwell, organize the jewelry in my closet and things I need to do, like fix the shelf in the kids room that is falling off the wall. Want vs. need.  Pretty vs. Practical. The classic struggle.

Well for the month of January, Im playing a game around my house. Want to join me.
Im warning you Im highly competive.

If I accomplish a task that pretties up the house I get a point. +1.
If I accomplish a task that practicals up the home I get a point +1.
If I do a task that both pretties and practicals up the house I get +3.
If I do a task that does either task, and it costs zero money I get +1.

What do we win.. you ask?
Ohhh a more pretty and practical house. Tah-dah.
Thats winning if ever I heard of any.

I'll post my progress, won't you post yours?
Lets have sparkling shining fresh houses come February.
For anyone that plays along during the month (you know so I ain't so lonely)
there will be a prize for the winner, details posted soon.

go ahead make a list...

I'll show you mine if you show me yours....

-get the last box in house unpacked and organized, my jewelry.
-storage in my closet
-shelf in kids room fixed
-art in hallway
-paint a bathroom upstairs
-baseboards painted in living room, fresh and clean
-garage cleaned out AGAIN, a car in the garage.

One of my goals is to finish a little cross stitch to pretty up your home (since you commented on my cross-stitch offer post way back when!)!

Do you have any favourite clothing pieces or colours I can use in the design? I'm hoping to have it on the way by the end of the month! You can also reach me by e-mail @ ace_er27@yahoo.com. Thanks :)

You just read my mind.
I am desperate to get things under control over here. So happy I won't be alone in my pursuit of the pretty vs. practical home challenge...right now I am trying to come up with some kind of a daily planner. This is so not my cup of tea. Going to go consult my much more organized husband...and try and write up my list.

oh Brianna,
come on you could kick all our butts. I just know you could.... you have already bought tons of things yardsaleing to use in the home, and you my friend, could do it.

I love the point system... that motivation tool is right up my alley. I'm not home until next week... wonder if I'll still be motivated then.

Ohhh, that sounds fun! I probably won't win, but extra motivation is nice :) I finally feel like I have some time to accomplish things!

OOOH. I am so in. My sis-in-law Jess pointed me your way and I love the idea of keeping score! I already chalk painted a desk for my daughter yesterday--not quite free--bummer, but pretty and practical, and I just canned orange marmalade--got the orange crate out of the way and used jars I already had--pretty and practical and tasty and free! See, I'm good at this! This will be fun :-) I already have a list.
